black jack slapper print

second print of explot series

boom crash mama and the fubar 4

So I got the idea to do boom crash mama and the fubar 4 from old exploit films of the 70's. I love how bad they are, the horrible acting the crappy special effects, the charm of it all. So this is my first print of the series I hope you like it.

Days and nights at the museum

I resently got the chance to work at the San Bernardino county museum, 3 shows three days, for three months. I worked with some amazing writers and artists like Grant Sutton, and David and Sam Arshawsky, Shawn Curran and Rob Mardis. I also got to work with kids, kids of all ages! Anyone could come, from beginner to pro where able to sit down and draw with us. I drew mostly with the wee ones. their little pencils flew acroos the page as they drew their favorite comic heros. I  taught them basic drawing skills, how to do character design, they made a full page comic scene, they told stories and made up their own characters, we had a blast! Can't wait till I get to do it again, here's some pics, enjoy.

Amazing!

So on the 22nd of September I got the chance to work at the San Bernardino county muesem! What was really cool about it was this, I got to work with a bunch of awesome kids, I was there for about 5 hours and in that time I met some really neat dudes and dudittes. I answered questions on how to get into the comic book biz and just drew with some of the visitors. I know, I know I should have took some pictures but we where into it man, we where acting like super heros, and drawing a comic book for crying out loud! So I forgot the pics, maybe next time. Oh and that next time will be on Oct 20th same place same time. See ya there gang.

The many faces of Hobbs

Here are some early concepts of Hobbs. I looked at them and sure they are cartoons and rabbits, but it didn't give the feel of golden age cartoons. the idea of the Back lots was to be living in early Hollywood and have 'simple' cartoon designs.

The transformation of Hobbs

Hobbs has gone through a great many changes, he was once a man (like in G.I.joe the movie when cobra commander was turned into a snake after being infected by the spores and through out the movie he was slowly turning into a cobra for reals! I know right.) So yes he was once a man, but as I was working on the black jack slappers, I wanted the stranger to fit into this world, so Hobbs was changed into a black and white rabbit.

Old fashion comic

A pic's for the new look of Rivets comics.

So we made a change

So we made a change, at one time my company was called Black Jack Slappers comics; but it didn't feel like it described the comic company as a whole, and wasn't really fair to the other up and coming  titles. The Black jack slappers are a comic title not the company, it would be like Marvel being called Spider- man, or DC being called Batman. It just doesn't work, especially since I started the second title. So I decided to change it to Rivets comics an old fashion comic. I love the 50's and 60's era of comics and I wanted to try and capture that same type of feel, so the look of the company has changed as well too, more rustic? If you will, I wanted to go back to the simpler times of reading comics. To where you can pick up a book and not be lost in all the sub stories.
